What a difference a day can make....

One day we're sitting and having dinner, smiling all cute for pictures and the next....

We wake up looking like this!!?? Long story short, our little Luca wound up in the hospital for a night with Cellulitis! It started with a little bump on his eye about two weeks prior. It really looked like a little white head. I paid attention to it but there was no change. Then one day before I dropped him off for school I noticed what looked like a red line going all the way across his eye lid but again the "pimple" was the same size, color shape everything! I told his teachers to watch it and let me know if there was any change to it while I called the Dr. His pediatrician said "try applying a hot compress to it and if there is any swelling or change call me". Okay well first of all, has anyone ever tried applying a warm compress to a 1 year old....it's super fun if you haven't! So I relay the message to the school and go on with the day. I go to pick him up and notice that I think it looks a little swollen. I call back the dr's office to document my discoveries to which they give me the same rap, compress, change call got it. We go about our night and I put him to sleep, when he wakes up in the morning I saw this.....

A kid that was happy as could be but he was looking a bit like sloth! So I immediately freak out, I mean calmly call the Dr. She tells me to come into her office. I walk in and he is of course all smiles cooing at the nurses but you could see the looks on their faces were saying "oohhhh". The Dr. walks in states that it's an infection and gives me a prescription and sends me off with the direction that if there is any change to it to call and should there be no change for the better in a few days then I'll need to take him into an ER. Okay check and check I can handle this. We got to pick up his prescription pop him the first dose, eat lunch and then I put him down for a nap. 2.5 hours later he wakes up looking worse!! The swelling looked like it was spreading and the pimple on his eye went from looking white to looking yellowish and bigger! I threw him in the car, called my mom dropped off Nicoletta's car seat in her car and off Luca and I went to the ER. Now I'm not sure exactly what I thought they were going to do for me in the ER but as they checked me in and he was seen by the Dr. quickly my panic set in. They proclaimed it was celulitus and the conversation turned to them explaining that they were recommending a CT scan and they were going to have to sedate him. Again, I'm not sure what I was expecting but I wasn't prepared for that. Holding back my tears as best I could over the next few hours I watch him get poked with needles, sedated, put through a CT scan and checked into the hospital for overnight observation. All the while he was a total champ!! Everyone was commenting on how mellow and relaxed he was. Scans came back perfect it was just an exterior infection that could be cleared up with antibiotics and some topical ointment. One night and 2 days later he was released to come home. We are so grateful that our Luca boy is a perfectly healthy happy guy!
